Thomas Postlethwait Obituary

Thomas “Scott” Postlethwait, 72, peacefully entered into Heaven on November 26, 2021, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Scott was born on March 18, 1949 in Wheeling, West Virginia. His parents were Geneva Eva (Dent) and Ava Ralph Postlethwait. Scott had 3 brothers. He grew up in Wheeling and graduated from high school in 1967. He moved to Lancaster, Pennsylvania in 1969.

Scott married Nancy Wilson in 1969 and they started a family. He joined the Navy in 1970. He had four daughters between 1971-1979. During his free time, Scott, or Scotty, as his parents and family called him, liked to hunt and fish and travel. Often the travel destination was to see his parents in West Virginia or his brothers who lived in neighboring states. He enjoyed showing his daughters the home he grew up in and his old neighborhood. Scott also liked wrestling and he would get together with some family members and they would watch it together.

Scott enjoyed boating out on the lake to fish at Muddy Run and would occasionally take his daughters along. He spent time teaching his daughters how to fish and how to shoot a gun. He had a cabin to go hunting where many memories were made. On one trip, his daughter, Scotti, remembers a close encounter with a bear! She also has memories of her dad teaching her how to work on cars.

Scott’s daughter, Pam, remembers her dad taking her fishing and he kept telling her to be quiet. She ended up catching a fish but he didn’t! She also remembers one of her birthdays was a very busy day and there was no mention of it until bedtime and her dad gave her a bouquet of pink carnations. Those are her favorite flowers to this day because of that!

Scott drove a bus for Red Rose Transit Authority in Lancaster for many years where he was well known by many in town. His daughter, Deanna, recalls joining her dad many times while he worked, feeling very proud to be with him. He would tell her stories about everywhere and everyone in town. You could often find him reading the newspaper and enjoying a coffee, or even his favorite drink, a screwdriver!

Scott enjoyed listening to music. Some of his favorite artists were The Statler Brothers, The Oakridge Boys, Kenny Rogers, George Jones, Tammy Wynette, and Tanya Tucker. You could always find him listening to music on his records! His love of music is one of his daughters, Tania, favorite things about him. It’s where her love of old country music came from. Tania also has fond memories of taking walks with her dad, one time after a huge snowstorm.

Scott met his fiancé, Judy, in 2002. They enjoyed going to the beach in Ocean City, Maryland, where they would spend time swimming and going out on their boat. Judy has memories of him teaching her how to swim and convincing her to jump off of the boat! They made their home together in New Providence, Pa, where he lived until his passing.

Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Geneva Eva (Dent) and Ava Ralph Postlethwait of Wheeling, WV; his brothers, Robert, husband of Frances; David “Pete”, husband of Carolyn; and Kenneth, husband of Shirley. He is also preceded in death by his son in law, Robert Buckwalter.

Scott is survived by his four daughters, Tania Deen, wife of Doug, of Marietta; Pamela Buckwalter, partner of Steve Martin, of Ephrata; Scotti Martinez, wife of Wilson, of Columbia; and Deanna Mastriani, wife of Tobias, of Narvon. He is survived by his 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his fiance, Judy Beats, of New Providence.
