Samuel Godshall Obituary

Samuel A. Godshall’s Obituary – January 2021

Samuel Allen Godshall, 68, of Harleysville, PA was born into the kingdom of heaven on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Norriton Square Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Norristown, PA.

He was the kind and loving husband of Sharon (Gulley) Godshall since August, 2016. Sam also spent 39 years of his life raising a family and loving Susan J. Myers of Barto, PA. Sam was born in Green Lane, PA to the late Stanley Godshall and the late Minerva (Landis) Godshall.

Sam attended Upper Perk High School in East Greenville, PA. He was born on a dairy farm and farmed with his father and brothers after high school. Sam was then employed for sixteen years at Knoll International, a local furniture manufacturing company. Sam then moved with his family to northern PA to work in maintenance and further the ministry of Spruce Lake Retreat and Wilderness Camp. After serving there for five years he moved back home to the Harleysville area and worked as a delivery driver for Rosenberger’s Dairy, in installation at Synder’s Square and in maintenance for Camp Men-O-Lan. Before retiring he worked transporting older residents from Living Branches Retirement Communities to their appointments. Sam was a longtime member of Perkiomenville Mennonite Church where he served in many roles; grounds care, teaching Sunday School, ushering and leading small groups. He more recently transferred his membership and attended Salford Mennonite Church with his wife, Sharon. He enjoyed helping with the grounds and serving as an usher at Salford as well. Sam loved spending time playing and helping his children and grandchildren. He especially loved to fish with Sharon and together they enjoyed listening to gospel music, sketching and coloring, watching wildlife, along with watching baseball and football. Sam also was an avid outdoorsman - spending many hours hunting with his son and grandsons. He loved to collect coins, work in his garden and work with his hands doing woodworking and fixing things. He was available to lend a helping hand whenever he could. He also went on many mission trips with church groups to help those in need.

In addition to his wife, Sharon, he is survived by his four children, Jennifer S. Hunsberger and husband, Keith of Green Lane, PA, and their five children and one daughter-in-law (Jaden and wife, Hannah, Kolson, Owen, Dawson and Karena); Sheila J. Caraballo of Alburtis, PA, and her two children (Samantha and Kevin); Samuel I. Godshall and his two children (Samuel and Benjamin) and wife Rachel of Bethlehem, PA, and Lydia M. Lesser and husband, Jeremy of Bethlehem, PA, and their three children (Baylen, Skyla and Uriah). Sam is also survived by his brother Leon Godshall and wife, Carol, of Manheim, PA; his sister, Norell Godshall of Ambler, PA; his brother, Luke Godshall and wife, Suzanne, of Springfield, VA; his brother, Glenn Godshall and wife, Cynthia, of Telford, PA and his brother-in-law, Wilbur Bauman, of Harrisonburg, VA.

In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his sister, Dolores Bauman.

Samuel’s remains will be buried at Perkiomenville Mennonite Church’s cemetery. A memorial service is being planned to take place at Perkiomenville Mennonite Church and will be announced at a later date.
