Magnus H. Stender was born May 6, 1934, to German immigrants. He would work on his parents’ farm and tree nursery and went on to graduate from Penn State in Horticulture. He was an Eagle Scout. He joined the Army and taught Judo to the counter-intelligence department. His long-term career was with Henkels & McCoy as their facilities manager. When he retired, he continued his devoted caregiving to his wife, Mary, who predeceased him in 1995. Magnus was an excellent caregiver and cook. He was a long-time member of Alcoholics Anonymous and was a sponsor to many. He was skilled in sign language. He was also predeceased by his sister Helen Stender of Denver, Pa, in 2016. Just a few of his many interests were Native American history, travel, gemology, and spiritual studies. He enjoyed a good cup of coffee. He liked cats and dogs and was known to have fed many a stray. Magnus and Mary were the parents of three children - Shirley Knepp of Phoenixville, Magnus E. Stender of Trappe, and Andrew Stender of Mountville,PA. He was the grandfather of four - Ryan Stender of Phoenixville, Kristen Knepp of Chambersburg, MD, Shersten Stender and Magnus W. Stender of Trappe. He passed to “go home” on the morning of July 20, 2020.
