Keith Kercher Obituary

Keith K. Kercher passed away at Einstein Medical Center in East Norriton, PA on Sunday, January 24, 2021, following illness.

Keith was born on June 1, 1953 to Karl K. Kercher and Cathrine Rex Kercher in Allentown, PA. and baptized in the Lutheran faith at St. Stephens Church in Allentown. During his childhood and adolescence, Keith was raised in Allentown with his brother and sisters. His siblings remember him as being active, loved to tease, and have fun. They say that he always had a nickname for everyone, and never used their real names. Keith graduated from William Allen High School in Allentown, PA. Following high school, Keith went to college at Ohio State University where he earned a B.A. in Journalism and lettered in Volleyball. He graduated Ohio State in 1977. One of his greatest loves was his alma mater, and all things Buckeyes. O-H-I-O!!

Following his graduation from college, Keith began working for Wendy’s Management Training Program, and he met his wife of 39 years, Amy Fahringer. Keith and Amy were married on April 25, 1981. To this union they welcomed sons, Kyle A. Kercher and Matthew S. Kercher. Keith worked hard to provide for his family, and later attended West Chester University and achieved his B.A. degree in Early Education. Keith went on to work in his true calling in social services as a Supports Coordinator for individuals with developmental disability for Montgomery County, PA and for the past 11 years at The Arc Alliance of Montgomery County. Keith was passionate about supporting and serving the needs of the developmentally disabled, as he actively advocated for his own Autistic son, Matthew. Using his personal experience, and education, Keith was instrumental in helping many families throughout the Montgomery County area as he advocated for their needs. He will be greatly missed by his employer and the families he helped.

Keith was a fun, outgoing, and energetic man who was known for his humor. Keith loved his family, jazz, all kinds of music, and all things trains. He spent many hours exploring train yards and sharing his love of trains with his son Kyle. Keith was community minded and served on the Montgomery County Zoning Board, was friends with many of his neighbors, and worked to improve the lives of others.

Keith is survived by his wife, Amy Kercher and his sons Kyle (Amber) Kercher and Matthew Kercher. His mother Cathrine Kercher, brother Kevin K. (Stacy Serba) Kercher, and sisters Kolette Scanlan, and Kristin (Kirk) Koehler and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father Karl K. Kercher. A memorial for Keith will be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made towards his Go Fund Me page: Gratitude for Keith Kercher and Support for Family.
