Janice (Jan) Hay peacefully passed away on August 31st, 2023, at the age of 73. She was born on October 11th, 1949, to Dorothy E. and William Glenn Miller in Connellsville PA and is now reunited with her husband Robert W. Hay Sr. who preceded her in death. Jan and her husband traveled the world while he was in the military, living in Germany and several places in the U.S. Once out of the military they settled back home in Connellsville where they raised their children.
Though Jan had many talents throughout her working life, she found great joy in the field of healthcare. She was a natural caregiver, and her compassionate nature made her a valuable asset in the field.
Another way Jan communicated her love for others was through baking. You could always count on a tray of the best cookies ever at Christmas time. In addition, she was a talented cake decorator. She made beautiful wedding cakes which were extra special for the members of the family who were lucky enough to have her bake one for them.
Jan had a natural talent for art and a passion for stained glass. Over the years her love for stained glass grew, and she eventually became skilled and knowledgeable enough to teach the art to others for Youghiogheny Glass. After taking an intensive class for glass carving in Sante Fe NM, she was tasked with carving some of the final touches onto some of the high-end gift items Youghiogheny glass sold. She was so tickled and proud when she saw one of the gift items she worked on in a store front in St. Armand Circle, Sarasota Fl. She loved teaching and sharing her creativity.
The picture you see of Jan was taken on the Island of Bonaire, where she learned to snorkel in her 60’s. She was in awe of both the underwater world and the everyday world around her.
Jan leaves behind a legacy of love and care. She is survived by her daughter, Donna McDougle, along with her children and grandchildren. Janice’s son, Robert Hay Jr., and his children and grandchildren also mourn her loss.
Jan will be remembered for her kind heart and giving nature. She will be deeply missed by all those who loved her.
