Genevieve Miezejeski Shumbo 1927 - 2022
Genevieve “Genny” Shumbo, age 94, of Moodus CT, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 10th with her daughter Mare and daughter-in-law Michele by her side.
Born in Deep River CT, a daughter of the late Vincent and Anna Miezejeski, she lived most of her life in Moodus, CT. Genny was the beloved wife of Edward Shumbo Sr. who predeceased her in 2006.
Genny will be remembered for her love of her family and friends, as she would do anything for them. She took great pride in everything she did and was very humble about her extraordinary talents. Genny was an avid gardener always with her hands in the dirt and will be remembered for her beautiful flower beds and plants that surrounded her home inside and out. As a bird watcher, her numerous bird feeders were always full with seeds for her feathered friends. Genny was a strong willed and independent woman who never asked for help. She mowed the lawn on her John Deere tractor, cleaned the gutters on the house and was on a ladder way into her 90’s. Driving anywhere in the car was a special time for her, since she was always ready for an adventure ride to Salmon River, Devil’s Hopyard, Deep River or a road trip to Pennsylvania with sister Lil, grandson Dale or Kilroy. Genny was very humble about her cooking, but she made the best pierogies, golumpki, blueberry squares, apple and lemon meringue pies. She was a remarkable seamstress making clothes, curtains, pillows, and alterations for anyone who needed them. Genny took great pleasure in working 13 years for Whelen Engineering. She enjoyed the simple family times…playing hide-n-seek, putting puzzles together, playing board games, playing cards or just watching Jeopardy while eating her ice cream.
Genny is survived by her children, Mariann Shumbo (wife Michele and son Michael) of Phoenixville PA, Ed Shumbo Jr. (wife Samantha & sons Dale and Troy) of Moodus CT, Vin Shumbo of South Windham CT, (wife Suzanne & kids Mia, Dana, Vincent, Olivia, Jacqueline), and Jim Shumbo of Salem CT (wife Dawn & kids Jay, Jesse and Tony) and 9 great grand children. Genevieve “Yon” also leaves her one sister Mary Rayner and is predeceased by 9 brothers and 2 sisters.
