With great sorrow we announce the June 24, 2021, death of Dr. James Franklyn Ripley in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, during his seventy-fifth year. He is survived by three siblings: Jacquelyn Morgan of Pelham, Ontario, Canada; Stafford Whitmore (Vada) Ripley of Dillsboro, Indiana; Jerrilyn (Robert) McClellan of Pelham, Ontario, Canada. He is sadly missed by dear friend Irma Portillo of Texas; teacher, tennis coach and mentor, Dave Blowers of Wellsboro, Pennsylvania; and step-children Meredith Bolls and Davin Ripley. Uncle Jim is mourned by three nephews, four nieces and several cousins.
Jim was born in Bath, New York, graduated from Addison Central School, University of Buffalo and University of Buffalo Dental School. As a member of the US Air Force, Major Ripley served in Thailand and Wright-Patterson Air Force base in Dayton, Ohio. He then pursued his studies in San Antonio, Texas, earning a specialty in Maxillo-Facial Surgery.
Dr. Ripley participated in medical missions in the countryside in Thailand and also in Central America. He possessed a brilliant mind, a keen wit and a musical gift. He suffered health problems and recently underwent two surgeries. He never recovered from the last one. He is now pain-free, at peace in God’s loving arms.
