Cornelius Corcoran Shields of Devon peacefully passed away at his residence on June 16,2022. He was 88 years old. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on July 24,1933 and was the son of the late Erwin and Cornelia Corcoran Shields.
Corky, as he was affectionately called by his wife, obtained a BS in Philosophy from Marquette University in 1956. He obtained his law degree from Marquette in 1957, an LL.M. in Taxation from Georgetown University Law School in 1962, and an MPA from the Harvard Kennedy School in 1969. He was a Captain in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1960 to 1967. He worked in the Office of the Chief Counsel at the IRS in the 1960s, and as Vice President and Tax Counsel and Vice President, Public Policy at Sun Co. Inc. in the 1970s to 1980s. He was a partner at Pepper, Hamilton and Scheetz, and finished his career at the Department of Veterans Affairs in Washington, D.C.
Cornelius is survived by his loving wife of 62 years; Margueritte (Peggy) Purtell Shields, his children; Paul (Roberta) , Kathryn ( Robert ) Rauch, Thomas ( Melonni ) and Michael ( Megan ), his grandchildren; Kelsey (Philippe ), Emily, Derrick, David, Kristen, Gwen, Samantha, Erik, Connor, Brian, and Madilyn. Also survived by his sister; Patsy ( Mike ) Casey.
Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on Tuesday June 21st from 9 – 10 AM followed by Funeral Mass at 10 AM at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church 50 West Walker Road Wayne, PA 19087
Immediately following the Mass everyone is invited to the Church Hall for fellowship and lunch.
