Brian Callahan Obituary

Brian P. Callahan

Brian Paul Callahan, of Wynnewood, passed away on September 5, 2021. He was 67 years old. Born in Philadelphia and raised in the Carroll Park section of Wynnewood, Brian attended Presentation BVM, Penn Wynne elementary, Ardmore Junior High, and Lower Merion.

Brian, also known as “Bird” to family and friends, loved bicycling, books, movies, music, and traveling. He took many great trips, including France, England, and Germany with his parents and sister as a teenager, cross country on his motorcycle twice, trips to Hawaii and Fiji, and bicycling and camping through Pennsylvania, Wyoming, France, Australia, and New Zealand. He joined a Tour de France cycling tour where he was able to ride the same route as the Tour. While hiking in Hawaii, he and a few other hikers were air lifted out after a sudden storm arose. After dropping off the other passengers, the pilot invited Brian to stay on board while they picked up other hikers stranded in the storm. Wherever Brian traveled in life, he met new friends and had great stories to tell.

He was an avid reader, loved watching movies, and had an eclectic appreciation of music. Brian played the drums for many years. He was quite the story teller – he could talk for days about bicycling and the Tour de France including the degree of a hill climb on a particular mountain. He read non-fiction and would love to go on about the adventurous story he was reading, in detail. If a song played on NPR, he likely knew the backstory of the song and the performer. We will miss hearing Brian’s next great story.

A house painter by trade, if you surprised Brian while he was working, you were likely to find the music blaring and him dancing around paint brush in hand. He really liked his clients and ended up branching out into gardening and lawn maintenance for them. So many loyal clients, who became friends, continued to hire him back year after year.

Brian was the beloved son of Edward F. and Mary Faith (nee Henon) Callahan, brother of Edward (Sandy), Pamela, and Mary Faith (Anne d.) Callahan. Brian is also survived by a niece and many loving cousins.

Services will be held on October 30th, at 11 am at St. Patrick’s church in Havre de Grace, MD.
