IN LOVING MEMORY OF
William A.
Brunell Iii
July 16, 1943 – December 20, 2024
William "Bill" A. Brunell III passed away peacefully, ending his battle with cancer, on Friday December 20, 2024. Both daughters were with him at his home in
King of Prussia, Pa.
Bill was born to the late William A. and the late Grace ( Petrocelli ) Brunell Jr. on July 16,1943 in Philadelphia, Pa. He grew up with his three sisters Sandra, Sharyn, and Luann. Upon graduating from Upper Darby High School in 1963, he married Ruth Cridland and moved to New York City, Ny. After five years he returned to Upper Darby, Pa. with his family, where they settled down and raised two girls, Margery and Theadora.
Back in Pennsylvania he began a lifelong career in the explosives industry. Taking some time off in the mid to late 1970's. During this time, he drove a tractor-trailer for B.S .B. The family's business. Afterwards he returned to his true calling of blasting and rock-drilling. In the early 1980's, as head foreman, he worked for three years on Saint Thomas VI. Making it possible to elongate the airport runway so commercial size planes could land. Over the years Bill worked for several different explosive outfits removing rock in and around the tri-state area. Lots of roadwork on route 422, downtown Manayunk and other spots have been made possible due to his rock removal. He blasted for building expansion at the Museum of Art in Philadelphia and at a major pharmaceutical campus. Another big job was a new housing development at Saint Peter's Village. Then there was always quarry work. Bill really enjoyed the tedious planning and using dynamite. His expertise, strong work ethic and attention to safety earned him the reputation as a true "Master Blaster"!
Bill's love and passion for fast cars and racing influenced his lifestyle. He was a hot-rodder who purchased his first Chevy Nova in the mid 1970's. This car model was the one! Later in life he owned two, a '67 and '71. These he drove and worked on for decades, with friends and family. The garage was a typical hang-out complete with lawn chairs for relaxing while shooting the breeze. As an avid race fan, attending car shows and drag races was a big part of his life. He loved taking his friends and grandson Alex with him. Bill got pleasure from being outdoors, listening to the radio and telling tales about the good life he lived. He will be greatly missed!
His surviving family includes daughter Margery Lewis and grandson Alexander Brunell, daughter Theadora Torrillo (wife to Keith Torrillo) and grandchildren Claudia, Keith, and Grace Torrillo. Also, sisters Sharyn Saulino (wife to Ralph Saulino) and Luann Dubin, and his many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Sandra Whyte and one niece.
A celebration of a life well lived for a man well-loved and respected will take place on Saturday May 3,2025 from 1:00pm till 4:00 pm at the General Warren, 9 Old Lancaster Road, Malvern, Pa. 19355 610-296-3637
