Sidney Chewning Obituary Sidney A. Chewning, 76, passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early morning hours of 2/14/2023 after spending the evening in his Bristol Borough home surrounded by his beloved family: his wife Patty, his son Matt, his daughter Jess, and his grandson Maverick.
Sid was born on December 15, 1946 to Edgar and Elizabeth Chewning, the second of six children born in rapid succession. He grew up in working-class Lower Bucks and graduated from Delhaas High School whereupon he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, rising to the rank of Sergeant at the age of 19 and proudly serving his country overseas during the Vietnam War. Sid continued to serve in the Marine Corps reserves after his tours of active duty, and took great pride in his military service throughout his life.
Sid met his wife Patty in 1983 and the couple married in 1987; they welcomed Matthew in 1993 and Jessica in 1995. Sid was an avid reader; he enjoyed local and national newspapers as well as fiction of all kinds, was always in the midst of a book and consumed dozens every year. Sid was a fisherman and looked forward to the yearly opening of trout season at Core Creek with his children in their youth, as well as their regular family camping trips and Jersey Shore vacations. He shared with his son a love for history, shared with his daughter a love for Steelers football, shared with his grandson a love for sweets, and shared with his wife Patty a strong, unwavering, loving bond. Sid will always be remembered by those who knew him as a loving and beloved husband, father, pop-pop, and friend.
Sid will be laid to rest with military honors at Washingtons Crossing National Cemetery in a small family ceremony on 3/7/2023.
