Margueritte "Peggy" Purtell Shields of Devon, PA peacefully passed away at her residence on August 22, 2025 surrounded by her family. She was 90 years old. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on June 18, 1935, she was the daughter of Dr. Paul Purtell and Irene Luebke Purtell.
She was known for her incredible generosity, endless energy, and her "Mrs. Shields' chocolate chip cookies". She was an active member of St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church, opening the Chapel every morning for many years. She leaves behind a large Church family. She worked as an x-ray technician until she was 81 and was very loved by the patients and doctors she worked with. She had a wide variety of interests: kayaking, biking, gardening, house painting, hosting family and friends for huge reunions, Easter egg hunts, flocking the Christmas tree, and knitting homemade Christmas stockings and afghans for family and friends. She celebrated 62 years of marriage to her loving Corky.
Peggy Shields is survived by her four children: Paul (Roberta), Kathryn (Robert) Rauch, Thomas (Melonni) and Michael (Megan) Shields. Her 11 grandchildren: Kelsey (Philippe), Emily, Derrick (Natalie), David, Kristen, Gwen, Samantha, Erik, Connor, Brian, and Madilyn, and her great grandchild Malo. She is also survived by her sisters Pat, Bobbie (Jim), and Sharon (Bill).
Family and friends will be received on Wednesday August 27, 2025 from 9:30AM-10:30AM at the St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church, 50 West Walker Road, Wayne, PA 19087 . Mass will follow the calling time at 10:30AM at the church. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family in the Washington Memorial Chapel Church Yard, Valley Forge Park.
