IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John R.
Borie
June 4, 1953 – March 18, 2026
John Borie, of Glenside, Pa., died 3/18/26 at Abington Hospital, the place where he was born.
John was a man of many talents. In high school, he was a star football player. He played tackle or guard and both offense and defense. John was named to the all-star team and carried his love of football well into his adult years. He loved skiing and scuba diving, becoming proficient in both. John's worklife included helping publish three different hardware trade magazines. He then went on to his job as a coppersmith. Many homes and businesses in the area proudly display his beautifully crafted gutters, roof flashing and downspouts. One of his customers was Josh Shapiro, our now governor. Governor Shapiro recognized John's talents, proudly displaying one of his ship models in the Governor's mansion. Indeed, this was another of John's many talents; ship model building. He built many beautiful models including The Victory and The Constitution. These would sell for thousands of dollars. He loved antique cars, owning two 1955 two-door Chevrolet Bel Airs. The later one won several best in shows at area car shows. But his greatest love was music. As an accomplished bass guitarist, he played his entire adult life in several bands.
John was a wonderful brother and friend and he will be sorely missed. He died after a brief and severe illness. He passed peacefully from this world. Many people feel very fortunate to have known him. Unfortunately for all of us, he only lived 72 years.
If anyone feels they would like to donate money in his honor, do so to Abington Hospital. He was born there and died there.
