IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Janice Mary
Charlton
December 8, 1935 – February 27, 2026
Janice Mary Charlton (Diamond) passed away on February 27, 2026, at the age of 90 in Cary, North Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Helen Diamond and sister of the late Richard Diamond. She was born in Philadelphia on December 8, 1935.
She is survived by her brother Gerard Diamond, her sons William and Kevin and daughters Susan and Mary, her grandchildren Kelsey, Conner, Austin and Marlee, and her great grandchildren Hazel, Weldon, Ada Jo, and Bentley.
She graduated from the high school of Mount St. Joseph's Academy in Philadelphia. She was married to LTC (R) William Charlton of the U.S. Army who passed away in 1999.
Education was a priority for her, she earned a B.S. from Bowie State University, an M.S. from Texas State University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin. After raising her four children, she began her professional career serving in the civil service at the Academy of Health Sciences at Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
Following that, she transitioned into the private sector and worked for the pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca. After that she became a lecturer in the Penn State University system. She moved to North Carolina to be close to her daughter Mary and her grandchildren. While in North Carolina, she became a Medicare/Medicaid counselor, consulted on tax returns for low-income people, worked at the Saint Dorcas Food Pantry and helped establish the library at The Templeton of Cary, the senior living community where she resided.
Our family had a wonderful 90th birthday dinner for her this past December which was attended by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was ecstatic and was absolutely beaming with maternal pride as she surveyed the gathering.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Immune Deficiency Foundation (https://primaryimmune.org) and/or the Saint Dorcas Food Pantry (https://neighborup.org/how-we-help/assistance/).
Services for her will be held at St. Andrew the Apostle Church (https://www.youtube.com/live/rpcnujTIuls?si=suDPxtDVMybQhQ-) on March 6, 2026 beginning at 10:45 AM
Family and friends are invited to attend an interment service on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Cemetery of West Conshohocken, Pennsylvania.
