Obituary

Helen Viola Shallis Laurell was born on February 17, 1929 in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, to Bertie Shallis and Eva Howell Shallis and passed away on July 3, 2026 at the age of 97.

She is formerly of Keyser, West Virginia, where she graduated from Keyser High School . She was in the Student Council, Junior Girls Basketball Team, News Editor of the high school Hi-Times, and Queen of the Winter Ball. Her high school yearbook motto was “Do unto others as you would have others do unto you”, from Matthew 7:12, which was truly how she lived.

She spent most of her life in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she was a devoted daughter to her parents, loving mother to her daughter, Lynn and caring aunt to her 16 nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her seven brothers; Albert, Leroy, William, Frank, Ernest, Charles and Glenn, along with special aunts, uncles and cousins.

Lovingly known as Mom-mom, she is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, three grandsons and one granddaughter-in-law, four great-grandchildren, three cousins, and many nieces and nephews.

She will be remembered for her generosity, selflessness and kind heart, along with her energetic spirit and joyful laughter.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, July 17, 2026, at Christ Church King of Prussia, 501 Swedesford Road, Wayne, PA, at 10:00 am, followed by burial at Glenwood Memorial Gardens, 2321 West Chester Pike, Broomall, PA,
