Obituary

Helen Miriam (Shelpeck) Highley, 95, a faithful servant of God and a resident of Glenside, PA for 58 years was welcomed into her heavenly home on July 31, 2025. Born April 22, 1930 to Paul and Helen Shelpuk (Chepress) of Philadelphia, PA, She passed peacefully in her sleep with her devoted husband at her side. Helen graduated from Olney High School in Philadelphia, PA in 1947, worked for Philadelphia Electric Company prior to marrying the love of her life, Ted Highley, at Baptist Temple on August 15, 1953. They were happily married for nearly 72 years at the time of her passing.

Helen's early years of marriage were spent raising her three children, participating in school and church activities as well as many extended family vacations. She treasured those days spent with her sisters and their families fostering strong relationships that would last a lifetime. She and Ted spent retirement years between their cottage in Mt Gretna, PA and Deerfield Beach, FL prior to moving to Elm Terrace Gardens, Lansdale, PA in December 2023.

Helen had a love for handcrafted art. This inspired her creativity and she and Ted started making stained glass sun catchers, lamps and windows. This passion later progressed to the opening of a craft gallery, "Artisans Three" with two other local artists. She devoted many years to selling high end American Artisan crafts. Her love of people fostered many devoted customers at their multiple galleries located in Springhouse, Peddler's Village and Stone Harbor, NJ.

Helen is survived by her husband Thomas Theodore (Ted) Highley Jr., daughter Janice Roberts (Dave), Lorraine Zarichniak (Steven) and Paul Highley (Liz) as well as 11 grandchildren - Rebecca Beels (Marten), Sarah Roberts, David Roberts, Peter Zarichniak (Kristy), Julie Zarichniak, Amy Zarichniak, Alayna Nichols (Max), Jamie Highley, Katrina Highley, Theodore Highley and Isabel Highley. Also survived by 8 great grandchildren, Lydia, Kate and James Campbell, Huw and Wim Beels and Benjamin, Ryan and Allison Zarichniak. She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Paula Mains, Doris Fisher and Barbara Meek.
