IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gerald F.
Kenney
October 6, 1949 – August 31, 2025
Gerald F. Kenney, (Jerry), 75, of Harleysville, PA was granted final peace on August 31, 2025, in Abington Hospital, Abington, PA following an extensive illness.
Jerry is survived by his sister, Karen, of western PA, and second cousin, Jack, of Kennett Square, PA. He will also be greatly missed by his best friend, Denise, of Telford, PA, and several other close friends and extended family now residing in various parts of PA.
After high school, Jerry served in the Army during the Vietnam War, receiving a Purple Heart for injuries sustained there. He then went on to graduate from Slippery Rock College in December, 1973, with a bachelor's degree in Education, focusing on History. Shortly thereafter, he moved to the Philadelphia area to work for the Veterans Administration in the Claims Division, where he remained for 30+ years, retiring in 2011.
Throughout his life, Jerry enjoyed the company of his colleagues and other friends in activities such as softball, road rallies, and hiking. He was a lifelong member of the Appalachian Mountain Club, and also traveled extensively, to numerous US states, and several other countries including Iceland, Australia, Canada, and his most cherished, Ireland. He also attended many music concerts, and was a proud supporter of his favorite music station, WXPN 88.5 in Philadelphia. After retirement, Jerry often participated in programs at his local YMCA, and area senior centers. Exercise classes, special events, local trips, and/or enjoying good food with friends joined reading and television/movies as his favorite pastimes.
Arrangements have been handled by Raffeo-DiCecco Memorial Home in Norristown, PA. Internment of his ashes will be private, at the Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown, PA, at a later, as-yet-undetermined, date.
As per Jerry's wishes, there is no official memorial service planned. Instead, friends and family are encouraged to remember his kind and generous soul by raising a glass, laughing often, and enjoying life.
