Obituary

Frances M. Key Obituary Frances Key, born October 22, 1939, passed away on June 24, 2024, with her son Curtis Key by her side. Frances was born in Miami, Florida, to parents Frank and Elizabeth Mitchell. She spent her life in Jacksonville, Florida, graduating from DuPont High School with her two sisters Elizabeth Ann Bennett and Linda Jacobsen. She married her husband Harold Key (1939-2023) in 1965, who adopted her son Robert Key (1959-2012) from her previous marriage to Robert West. Frances and Harold gave birth to their son Curtis in 1970. Frances loved to travel and got her first taste when she moved to the village of Fenny Compton in England, where her husband Harold was relocated when serving in the Air Force. While living there she loved to shop for antiques and made many close friends from the village. She later joined the Upper Heyford Womens Club with whom she traveled to Spain. After returning to the United States in 1977, she lived with her family on Barksdale Air Force Base in Shreveport, Louisiana, where she was involved in many of her childrens activities. When her husband retired, they returned to Jacksonville, Florida, to be close to their families. Over the years she had the opportunity to travel back to England, and take trips to Italy, France, and Switzerland. Her family shares wonderful memories of these holidays with her. Frances had a passionate and creative spirit which she expressed through her love of cooking and entertaining, and through a variety of crafts, from sewing teddy bears, cross stich, and jewelry making. She especially loved to garden and kept the yard filled with beautiful flowers. She adored the holidays, especially Christmas, when she would festively adorn her home with cheerful decorations. She enjoyed being in the kitchen with her son Curtis where they would cook up elaborate meals, all while having a cosmopolitan (or two) in hand. Above all, Frances was a dedicated and devoted wife and mother, always putting the needs of her family before hers. She was fiercely loyal and protective, never leaving their side in times of need. In 2014 Frances was diagnosed with vascular dementia, which affected her short-term memory, though leaving her long-term memory mostly intact, allowing her to reminisce fondly in all the wonderful times of her life. In 2018 she moved to Pennsylvania where she could be cared for more closely by her son. Frances passing leaves an irreplaceable hole in the hearts of her family and everyone who knew her. The family will celebrate her life, and that of her husband Harold who passed in October 2023 later this summer, details to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to the hospice organization Holisticare https://www.holisticarehospice.org/make a donation.php
