Obituary

Dorothy Joan Jasper, known to all as Joan, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2025, at the age of 92. She was born on July 3, 1933  to George A. Norris and Ellen Braidwood Norris in Elizabeth NJ.

Joan earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Bucknell University. After dedicating her early years to raising her four children, she returned to school and earned her teaching degree from Beaver College. She went on to become an exceptional 5th-grade teacher at Greene Street Friends School, where she taught for 17 years and left a lasting impact on generations of students through her love of children, her dedication, and her ability to share the joy of learning.

One of Joan's great passions was the game of Bridge. She not only played regularly with friends but also competed in tournaments, ultimately achieving the rank of Master Bridge Player.

Joan loved spending time with her family and was married to the love of her life, Peter Jasper, for 68 years. The two first met in high school at the age of 14. She especially cherished time at the beloved Long Beach Island home she shared with her husband. Those family gatherings—filled with fun, laughter, and connection—were among her most treasured moments. She is survived by her four children and their families. Her son Peter Jasper Jr. and his wife Lorainne Jasper, and grandchildren Pete, Mike, Krista, and Nick and her great granddaughter, Maddie. Her daughter Cynthia and her husband Jerry Fechter, and grandchildren Brad, Matthew, and Christian and her great grandchildren Aria, Holden, and Keanu. Her son Jim Jasper, his former wife Rachael, and grandchildren Daniel and Elad. Her son John Jasper and his wife Julie, and grandchildren Hannah and Bailey and her sister Elaine Norris Verrusio and her husband Carl. Joan will be remembered for her deep love of family and friends, her lifelong passion for reading and learning, and her appreciation for the natural world.

A private end-of-life celebration will be held with close family members to honor Joan's life.
