Audrey Veniard Borgia Obituary Audrey Frances Valerie Veniard Borgia January 15, 1932 -March 18, 2024 Audrey Veniard Borgia was born in Brooklyn NY on January 15, 1932 to Catherine Cummings Veniard and Philip Veniard. She grew up on Sterling Place in a close-knit family enclave with her siblings Bernice and Donald and their Kennedy cousins. A passionate reader, Audrey graduated from Bishop McDonnell Memorial High School for Girls, an invitation- only, prestigious academic school. After high school, she attended Columbia University School of General Studies. As a teen she developed an interest in fashion that lasted throughout her life. From childhood on she was known for her lively spirits and quick wit. Her first career was in advertising, working for Benton & Bowles and Ted Bates Worldwide. She enjoyed many adventures in NYC and traveled extensively with friends during those years. She married Vincent (Vinnie) Borgia in 1964. They moved to Lindale Street in North Bellmore where they raised four children and had many happy times in a wonderful neighborhood with many friends. Audrey referred to this time as one of the happiest in her life. A lifelong accomplished cook, Audrey launched a second career as a sous chef and caterer in the 1970s and 1980s. After a bout of illness, she returned to school at SUNY Farmingdale to get a degree in nutrition and worked in the Dietary department at Nassau County Medical Center for many years. Upon retirement, she moved to Towamensing Trails in Albrightsville, PA where she and Vinnie quickly became involved in an active social circle and travelled frequently in the US, Caribbean, and Central America. After she was widowed, she continued to travel extensively around the world, visiting several European countries and Israel. Audrey joined Magic Moments, a traveling theater group, that performed in nursing homes and senior centers. She was particularly known for her Betty Boop, Minnie Pearl, Gracie Allen, and a tour de force as Santa Claus. She also performed in local theater productions. An active volunteer her whole life, Audrey was PTA President, an organizer of FISH of Wantagh, a religious education teacher for a decade, an ESL tutor, a Eucharistic Minister, and provider of meals for needy families. She loved opera, traveling, art, theater, classical music, exercising, reading, visiting Jones Beach, and especially spending time with her eight grandchildren, whom she often hosted in her Towamensing home for "Camp Grammy." Audrey was predeceased by her parents, siblings, and husband. She is survived by her children Catherine Borgia, Dr. Vicky Borgia, Christina Borgia and her husband Sean Conway, and James Borgia and his wife Angie, and her grandchildren, Madeline and Emily Johl, Damon and Erik Borgia, Kit and Kieran Conway, and Junianna and Justine Borgia. Despite having moved away in her early 20s, Audrey remained a Brooklyn Girl her whole life and often reminded her children and grandchildren that in Brooklyn, "only the strong survive!"
